Most of the time spent building a stream list from P&IDs is extraction and transcription: reading tags, looking up line specs, inferring operating conditions not written on the drawing. Work that is repeatable and verifiable. Stream List Assistant does that part: extract what is on the page, fill what is missing with flagged assumptions, deliver a draft the engineer can red-line.

What it does not do: compute heat balances, validate compositions, or sign off. That stays with the engineer.

No. Stream List Assistant drafts the stream list document; it does not compute heat balance, equilibrium, or rigorous composition. Use your simulation tool (Aspen, HYSYS, PRO/II) to generate balanced stream data, then import or overwrite the assumed values in the draft.

Excel and JSON. The Excel file follows a fixed column layout: stream tag, from, to, service, phase, line size, pipe class, temperature, pressure, mass flow, density, and source badge. The JSON file mirrors the same structure and is ready to import into data management tools or custom dashboards.

Scanned PDFs are accepted. Extraction accuracy depends on scan resolution and drawing clarity. Hand-drawn or low-resolution scans may produce more assumed cells and lower confidence scores. The output will still be usable as a draft, but the reviewer should expect more red-lining.

Composition is not extracted from the drawing (P&IDs rarely carry it). Where relevant, a composition description is inferred from the service label (e.g., light naphtha, mixed-phase reactor effluent) and flagged as assumed. For precise composition data, supply your simulation output or PFD stream table alongside the P&IDs.

Out of scope. Stream List Assistant outputs a stream identification list with process data as extracted or assumed. Heat balance, duty calculations, and energy closure are not computed. Pair the draft with your process simulation for a balanced data set.
